LeAnn Rimes never struck me as a DVF girl and she probably still isn't- I doubt Diane von Furstenberg would have approved the rest of LeAnn's outfit, even for a flight.

In any case, she's carrying the Stephanie bag which seems to be a celeb favorites for the last couple of years (though this is the large size that's no longer made). This fact alone is usually enough for me to skip an item, but I admit the medium version in Emerald is very appealing:

Here's a great example for social media at its best. A couple of weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep. I reached for my laptop, checked my email, glanced at the usual forums and then Twitter. A tweet by Ayala Sender of Ayala Moriel  Perfumes caught my eye. It had nothing to do with natural perfumery but linked to an Etsy store of a Vancouver-based handbag designer. The result of that nightly tweet-and-shop was the bag above.

The thing about Jola V Designs is that these purses are not made of new leather. All the leather is re-claimed, re-purposed or surplus stock. Everything is handmade with the utmost attention to details. They try to make as little waste as possible during production, and most scraps are turned into small accessories, such as coin purses (see photo) or decorative details.

The things that especially caught my eye in this specific bag were the vintage print of the lining and the braided double strap which isn't just beautiful, but also very comfortable to carry (there's also a long single strap that allows for wearing across the body). The cute dust bag was a welcome surprise, as I prefer to store my purses in such bags.

It's such a luxurious item- something that's exquisitely made and will never appear in mass quantities at local department stores before being relegated to discount chains. The design and details are unique, so I'll never see someone carrying an exact copy that was purchased for fraction of the price from a street vendor selling counterfeit items. Looking at the seams, the finish and the lining, it's clear no shortcuts were taken. Unless one can afford to get on Hermes Birkin waitlist, this is as sumptuous as it gets. Amazingly, the prices are very reasonable: from $99 to $280 for a full size leather bag. There are also smaller accessories, such as the very sexy Ball &Chain wrist bag that attaches to your arm with a leather cuff.

Anya Hindmarch thinks you will buy this

Maybe it's me. Perhaps I've been completely wrong in assuming handbag designer Anya Hindmarch was about luxury and a certain highbrow style, even when mass producing. It's not that I was all too crazy about the idea of Anya Hindmarch for Target, but hey, everybody's doing that; I don't buy the fashion equivalent of fast food anyway.

But these $230 a piece totes strike me as an incredibly cynical move. I get the feeling Ms. Hindmarch has really lost respect for her clients. As far as I'm concerned, the feeling is mutual.

We're having a serious demonstration of April Showers the last couple of days, but Saturday was gorgeous and as springy as they come. It was a perfect day to walk the streets of Nyack, NY, and visit antique stores, galleries and my favorite patisserie on this side of the Atlantic, Didier Dumas.

Another high point was Klay Gallery on 65 South Broadway. Most of the space is dedicated to pottery and there are some gorgeous pieces there, all handmade and at least semi-local. There's also a selection of the cutest baby items- clothes, blankets and toys, including tiny crocheted sleepers (including in boy colors). And jewelry...

Anne Koplik Designs is a small family business from Brewster, NY, that has steadily built a reputation and an impressive client list. This necklace called to me with its happy spring colors and cute details. The flowers were enameled by hand, but unlike other enamel pieces I have, this necklace is very lightweight. The chain is very casual and almost rough-looking, which is the only thing I might have changed, but it looks great either with a sun-dress or a simple white tank top.

Anne Koplik has a website (annekopik.com) that needs quite a bit of spiffing up to do the jewelry any justice. As I said above, I bought the necklace ($58) at the Klay Gallery in Nyack, NY.

I desperately need new sunglasses. I also hate actually shopping for them because 90% of what's out there makes me look ridiculous. I avoided the last couple of trends of huge aviators and even bigger vintage-style shades, but it's time to replace at least one of the pairs I'm wearing regularly.

The cat eye frame is back, and while I'm pretty sure I shouldn't even attempt this look, I love the idea of it. Here's Taylor Tomasi, style and accessories director for Marie-Claire magazine. She was photographed in Paris during Fashion Week wearing these Norma Kamali sunglasses.
