As much as I love wearing my Plum Exquisite Rouge Volupté, it's just not a daytime color. At least not in these pre-fall days, as dramatic makeup still looks a bit out of place. It would look more appropriate when wearing a hat and a long coat. What I'm loving right now during the day is YSL Gloss Volupté- the sheer, glossy alternative.
I chose the two darkest colors, but as you can see, they are very sheer and easy to wear. The red, Frozen Cherry, gives that "bitten" look, while Frosted Plum is my perfect neutral. Truth be told, since my lips are naturally dark, the sheer colors aren't boldly different and it only matters which one I'm wearing when the rest of my makeup has a non-neutral focal point, like a green or blue eye shadow.
The colors' names are a bit misleading. There's no frosted finish here, just a sheer, not too glossy color. I think they're referring the popsicle stain effect the products create.
The texture of Gloss Volupte is smooth and moisturizing. Application is easy even when in a hurry (and in the car), it goes on smoothly and doesn't bleed or pool. Of course, the staying power is minimal, but reapplying is a breeze, and the cute packaging makes it fun. A good indication of how much I like these two glosses was the amount of time it took me just now to locate them in my handbags so I could add take the swatch photo. They are both in my current rotation.
YSL Gloss Volupte ($34 each) is available at most decent department stores and online. Frosted Plum seems to be extremely popular, as it sells out as fast as the counters get new stock.
